“Within three weeks of meeting Ann, we had developed together a plan of action to combat my 22-year problem with bulimia. While various components of her internal staff were crucial, the most helpful aspect was the intense work she and I did together on what was going on inside of me that expressed itself in the form of self destructive behaviors. After especially difficult sessions, I’d receive an email of comfort from Ann. In the deep moments of pain and desires to return to binging and purging, I’d cling to her written notes in an effort to stay on track and find a calm space in my mind.”

Eating disorders and disordered eating are very prevalent in our society. There are a variety of treatment approaches, some that work, most that don’t. At The Hull Institute, we believe the biggest barrier to treatment is a lack of willingness and lack of self-confidence that one can actually implement and stick to the plan, one day at a time. Most of our work is focused, especially initially, on staying in the moment and learning and using new skills to get through one day, one minute, one meal at a time.

Talk therapy is great and a critical part of recovery. AND doing is what recovery is all about. We recognize that people are in various stages of readiness for change, so our work is a delicate balance between what the client thinks is the pace she/he wants to go, and what the pace actually needs to be, given the level of "dis-ease". At The Hull Institute, we work with clients to develop and maintain a sound, holistic recovery plan.

Since eating disorders and other addictions are found in all populations, we treat men, women, children, adolescents, middle aged and older adults.
